The Lego Robotics Club meets in the Maker Space room.
The host family (McNamaras) has brought in their team Legos, including two MindStorms robots (NXT and EV3) and a WeDo system along with a 4’x8′ table setup.
Kids will have the chance to build and program the robots to complete the missions, discuss strategy, and learn programming. The McNamaras will also be bringing in the posters that were created for competition and talk about solving engineering problems (as much as the kids want to talk about it).
Sessions will be run by 16yo Priya McNamara and 14yo Griffin McNamara, with help from other family and team members.
Kids are welcome to bring their own Lego robots/etc – so long as they keep track of their parts!
Recommended ages 8+ (Younger is allowed, but with close parental supervision due to the small and delicate pieces and the array of metal- and wood-working tools in the Maker Space)

A $3-$5 contribution per family is suggested for non-members.
NOTES: Kerridwen McNamara has been coaching FIRST Lego League (FLL) and JrFLL teams for a long time (3 seasons and 7 seasons over 12 years, respectively). FLL is for kids who are 9-14yo, JrFLL for 6-9yos. Priya was last year’s FLL Team Captain and will serve as FLL/JrFLL Youth Mentor this year. Griffin McNamara will be the FLL Team Captain this year.
FLL is a competitive program. Both FLL and JrFLL involve a serious time-commitment. Kerridwen wants to be completely up-front in that she is looking for kids who will want to participate in teams in the Fall… and parents willing to make the commitment. The club will give the kids time to see how much they like this stuff, and the parents time to get their questions answered. It will also give everyone a chance to see how they work together.
Team tryouts will occur in June – and will be PRECEDED by a Parent Meeting (a week or so beforehand). There is no implied commitment to the team by participating in the Lego Robotics Club – and participating in Lego Robotics Club does not imply acceptance to the team in the Fall.
